By David Greenspan 3/15/07 _________________________________________________________ The LMCrew Ergathon is over and what a great success. I was really disappointed that I had to be in that very sad and struggling city of New Orleans. Whereas, those who suffered through Katrina have shown their resilience in hanging on in that town, the LM Crew athletes demonstrated their own hanging on to the erg raising money for the rowing program and Alex's Lemonade. Lisa tells me that the events was grand indeed. Lots of music, with two radio stations contributing. Food and drinks were abundant. The rowing struck alot of interest with many parents who had never seen an ergometer. Athletes and coaches getting on, getting off, sweating and struggling, and all for a pair of good causes. The final tally is not yet in, but it is a stone's throw away from a gross of $13,000. And here are some of the pictures that I have been sent.
By David Greenspan 2/5/07 _________________________________________________________ The LMCrew Ergathon is off an running. The first event was a pizza party and letter writing campaign. Joining the program was Liz Scott of Alex's Lemonade. This year, the LMCrew is fundraising, in part, to assist Alex's Lemonade fight against childhood cancer. Liz's daughter Alex died of cancer at the age of 8, having sold lemonade for 4 years to help fight childhood cancer. Her inspirational work lead to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. As of January 2007, Alex's has raised over $10,000,000. Now LM Crew can help too. Nearly the entire LM Crew program was able to be present to personalize and address campaign letters to nearly 1,000 recipients. It was a spirited gathering. Lots of donated food was on hand, the coaches supported the athletes, some parents supported the coaches, and the job was successfully accomplished. The comaraderie that makes LM Crew so special was already beginning to take root for the many athletes, novice and returning upperclass alike. Now it is a waiting game to see just what the response will be from the community. The time table is set. The letters went out on 2/6. Returns will be collected and results posted. The Ergathon, already off to a great start with a number of direct donations, will combine these contributions to those raised at the door on 3/3. Signs will go up throughout LM and on the yard in front of the school to bring in the community for this fundraising event. We have to extend our gratitude to Lisa Greenspan who is spearheading this campaign. So far, so good. Way to go Lisa!
