Sheila Dyer - Women's Varsity and Lower Merion Crew Head coach

Sheila graduated from Merion Mercy Academy in 1999, where she was a member of the soccer and the swim teams. She went to the University of New Hampshire where she was a four year member of the crew team.  Sheila rowed in the 1st Novice 8 and the Second Varsity 8.  She graduated in 2003 with a B.S. in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Education, then received a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from St. Joseph's University in December 2005.  During the Spring of 2005 Sheila coached Merion Mercy Academy in their inaugural season and then moved to coaching for Mount Saint Joseph's Academy in the winter of 2006 before joining LM Crew as the womans varsity coach in the winter of 2007-8

Kate Freeland - Women's Assistant coach

Kate Freeland began rowing in the summer of 1996 for Bachelors Barge Club. She continued rowing there throughout her high school career as a member of the Women's JV 8+, JV 4x, JV 2x, and V 4+. During her career with Bachelors Barge Club she compiled numerous victories, most notably the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. She was afforded the opportunity to travel to the Women's Henley Regatta in the summer of 1999 as a member of the JV 4x and went on to earn a silver at the U.S. Rowing National Club Championships. Kate continued her rowing during the Spring as a member of LMHS's crew team where she was a member of the women's Freshman Eight, the JV 4x, and the V 4x. During her career with LMHS she compiled numerous victories, winning the Scholastic Rowing Association of America Nationals as a member of the JV 4x in 1998. In 1999 her boat went 8-2, with a victory in the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. Kate continued her rowing career at Trinity College where she was a member of the Freshman Eight and Women's V8+. Her career was halted in her junior year and eventually ended in the Spring of her Senior year due to significant injury to her shoulder and back. Last Spring Kate was a volunteer coach for LMHS's Women's Varsity team and continues her commitment to the team this year as coach for the Junior Varsity team. Kate is currently a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, earning her Master's in Secondary Education. ________________________________________________________________________________________

Kirk Beckman --Freshman/Novice Coach

Kirk rowed as a member of the Michigan State University men's Rowing Team from 1979-1983 where he was the captain of the Men's Heavyweight team, Rowing Club President and a coach on the Learn to Row Program. He attended the National Team Rowing camp in 1981-1983. After moving to Philadelphia in 1983 Kirk became a member of the Vesper Boat Club and began rowing on the Senior Elite Team until 1987. In 1988 he became a Vesper Boat Club Master's Men's Rower and continues to row with Vesper Boat Club where he also serves as a third term Board of Directors member. Kirk has rowed in and won numerous regattas throughout North America as well as in Monaco. Outside of continuing to row as many mornings as possible he works with Boy Scouts of America troops and has two children in the Lower Merion School District.
